VivoBook REVIEW

Laptops are indispensable part of any modern student’s kit. It is virtually impossible to get anything done without one. Luckily, ASUS has come out with a product that is precisely aimed at that demographic.

This handy notebook laptop has a bright 11.6-inch display. Available at $279, it provides users with a durable design and performs respectably even with its limited Windows 10 OS. Overall, this laptop would work great for general classroom use.

It comes in an elegant and textured navy-blue plastic shell with rubber guard edges to match. At less than 3 pounds and measuring just 11.6 x 7.9 x 0.89 inches, it could easily be mistaken as a toy. It also has a slim and easy to open lid. The trademark silver Asus logo is placed right at its heart which serves to add a layer of sophistication.

It would also please students to know that this notebook can easily transform into a tablet with ease. This makes it all the more useful when giving class presentations. With the VivoBook W202NA, students and budget-conscious parents could walk away happy knowing that there is a versatile and highly durable laptop on the market just for them.

HP Stream 11 Review

Despite the HP Stream 11’s seemingly childlike appeal, with its use of a cute and candy-themed aesthetic, this notebook actually packs a serious punch. Dismissing it entirely based solely on its appearance would be a grave mistake.

Users have a choice between a vibrant aqua blue or an effervescent purple. The color is ingrained from the laptop’s cover to its touchpad, except for the keyboard which remains a bright white regardless of your color choice. Obviously, when it comes to the Stream 11’s aesthetic, people will definitely be divided. You will either love its toy-like look or hate it completely. When it comes to such bold statements such as this, rarely is there any middle ground.

The HP Stream 11 has great audio components, a long battery life, and a solid performance overall. All of these become even more impressive once you realize that all of it can be yours for a measly $200 price tag.

We highly recommend this laptop for students. It packs all the computing power you will ever need and it is just fun to use overall. However, if you are professional looking for a work laptop, then you may have to look elsewhere as its look does not really do much in terms of creating an air of professionalism.

Dell XPS 13 Review

Dell first launched the XPS 13 laptop series back in 2015. It was showered with overwhelmingly positive reviews as the notebook stood out from the crowd. This renown was mainly due to the unique display design it pioneered. Users were amazed by the fact that its 13-inch screen nearly filled the entire laptop lid. The additional inches served the brand well as it gave the users significantly more space to work with.

Of course, other laptop manufacturers have since made use of this screen design, with Lenovo leading the charge. However, Dell fans can rest assured that the new generation XPS 13 has not lost any of the original’s magic and remains a clear favorite among PC users due to its overall greatness.

Aside from its edge-to-edge design, the latest iteration of the XPS13 also has the latest seventh-generation Intel Kaby Lake processors. It also makes use of a Thunderbolt 3 port. It would also please users to know that the notebook allows users to handle their power, Ethernet, as well as their audio and video connections from a single cord just as long as you have a dock or an adapter. Its fantastic keyboard is also another memorable feature as it gives users a perfectly ergonomic typing experience.

Of course, we are not saying that this laptop is not without flaws. It certainly has a couple of notable drawbacks with its awkwardly placed webcam being the worst of it.

All in all, the new Dell XPS 13 keeps everything good about the previous model and builds upon it further.

Lenovo Yoga 920

The Yogo 920 is the latest laptop produced by Lenovo. It has a 13.9-inch display with almost no bezel above and on either sides. It is also worth noting that it comes in two distinct display options as users can opt for a UHD (3840 x 2160) or a FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS touchscreen.

Perhaps one of the first things people will notice about the Yoga 920 is its exceptionally modern design. Making use of a full metal chassis, it sports a look that is distinctly contemporary and hip. This is accentuated by the color choices available to consumers. You can get this laptop in a bronze or a silver exterior.

It is also worth noting that the Lenovo Yoga 920 is noticeably slimmer than its predecessor, the Yoga 910. However, it virtually weighs the same. However, it does come with its fair share of upgrades. For instance, it features the Kaby Lake, the latest generation of the quad-core Core i7 processor from Intel.  It also has two USB Type-C connectors that offer Thunderbolt 3 compatibility as well as an additional USB 3.0 port. As this was not enough, the laptop also has a 720p HD webcam. This is paired with the new Far Field microphones which would allow users to activate Cortana from a distance of 4 meters.

A quick look at the laptop’s specifications and one can easily see this model as being a standard bearer for the Lenovo brand. If you think that the 920 is simply a mere upgrade from the 910, then you will be in for a massive surprise.

  • Price – It is vital that stick to your budget. You simply cannot overspend when it comes to a gadget like the smartphone. Generally, you can get an iPhone or a premium Android phone for around $650 to $800. However, you can opt to get great mid-range options at below $500.
  • Screen Size – Getting the right screen size should be a priority for smartphone buyers. Nowadays, it is altogether common for phones to have a screen size of 5.5 inches. However, you can still opt to get a larger screen if you plan on watching videos and play games on your phone. Of course, this is not to say that a smaller screen size is out of the question.

Dispelling Smartphone Misconceptions

Smartphones involve a lot of moving parts. With all the specifications that you have to pay attention to, it can be a bit overwhelming. That being said, it is altogether unsurprising to find that most people have a hard time finding the phone that is perfect for them.

This article seeks to help with that by shedding some light on the issue. It addresses a couple of commonly held misconceptions.

  • Display – It seems that a lot of people think that screen resolution is a far more important quality compared to its color quality and brightness. However, this is simply not the case. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The brightness of the display, for instance, tells you just how clear the screen will be when used outdoors. Conversely, the color quality tells you just how vibrant the picture will be. That being said, it is vital that you get a phone with the high dynamic range (HDR)
  • Camera – When looking for a smartphone, the quality of the camera inevitably becomes a question. That being said, you can simply ignore the camera megapixels as it is not as important as it is made out to be. Instead, pay attention to the aperture and additional features like dual lenses.
  • Processor Speed – There is a misconception that only the flagship phones offer users the high level of computing power everyone wants. Yet, the fact of the matter is that even mid-range phones can do just that.

These are just a few of the smartphone myths that you have to put out of your mind.
